GOOD LUCK TO ARNET AND ANNA AT THE NEW ZEALAND JUNIORS AND CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING SELECTED IN THE BOP 'A' RELAY TEAM.

Carnivals Galore

The last three weeks have been very busy with meets every weekend.  The club entered it's biggest team for many years in the Mount Maunganui Hot Stuff Meet.  30 swimmers competed and achieved many personal bests.  A highlight of the meet was Kathryn, Arnet and Max making the skins event.  Arnet was knocked out second and Kathryn making it to the last four in the female skins.  Max came an amazing second in the male skins event!  A small team of three went to the Tauranga Meet.  Kathryn won the female skins event winning herself $50 (of which Mike hasn't seen a cent).  Twelve swimmers competed in the Bay of Plenty Junior Champs on the 3rd and 4th of December.  Anna Burnett won a gold medal in the 50 breaststroke.  The team also won a number of silver and bronze medals.  There are only two meets left for 2011; Taupo and Rotorua, then a well earn break for Parents and Kids.  Merry Christmas to you all. Te Awamutu and Whakatane swim meets

The club has had teams swimming at both the Te Awamutu and Whakatane swim meets in the past couple of weeks.  The girls achieved some great personal bests and had some stiff compition from the Waikato swimmers at the Te Awamutu meet.

A team of six girls and one boy competed in Whakatane.  The times swam were great in particular Olivia who was competing in her first swim meet.  One again we had a swimmer in the girls skins and one swimmer in the boys skins.  For Liam Stephenson it was his first skins event and Kathryn Bennett came third in the girls skins.

For those wondering what a skins event is; it's simply the top 8 girls and top 8 boys swimming against each other in the 50 freestyle.  They race against each other at intervals on 2minutes and 30seconds with the slowest being out each race until a winner is found.

Keep an eye out for the Long Distance Meet and the Rotorua Meet both before the end of the year.  Details on the notice board.

Bay Of Plenty Champs and Ace Swim and Skin

A large group of girls (where are the boys) attended both the BOP Champs and the Ace Swim and Skin Meet.

The BOP Champs saw all the girls achieving great personal bests.  The highlight of the meet was Arnet Tolofu recieving a bronze and a silver medal for her efforts in the 11/12 year old girls age group.  Well done Arnet!

The following weekend the girls headed to Hamilton for the Ace Swim and Skin Meet and once again personal bests were achieved in abundance.  It was a great day for the kids and the parents deserve a big thank you for their timekeeping roles.  It certainly made a difference having so many participate, the role shared around makes it a lot less work, less often.
